Nigerians must have gone to bed sober after last nights woeful loss to Croatia. It was a busy weekend for Nigerians, because the Eid Mubarak celebrations was still on-going for the Muslims and then the match was also another acivity to look forward to.

Despite the lack of power in most areas as is typical of PHCN, people didn’t mind either using their last cash available to fuel their generators, or even visiting bars ad lounges which advertised their outlets as viewing centers of the match. Facebook was a beehive of activities as many Nigerians male and female alike turned to prophets already predicting a win at the match.

Even Croatians had to join to felicitate with the Nigerian supporters club as they landed the country wearing their green customized T-shirts with confidence, merriment and music from the airport, bars and finally the football arena.

But when the match did happen, first Etebo Oghenekaro scored an own goal and then William Troost-Ekong gave away a penalty which worked in favour of the Croatians,  everywhere went quiet. Nigerians are mourning this loss, let’s hope they do better at the next two qualifying matches.

Do you think Nigeria can still qualify for the World Cup?
