Ekiti State has been in the eye of the storm for a while now for obvious reasons. It is a PDP state, which makes it an opposition to the present government, it has a very vocal and radical governor who spares no words in critiquing the present government, and it’s an elitist state. The APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari has been very intentional on its need to clinch Ekiti State, and with Kayode Fayemi, a former governor of Ekiti State who is now a most formidable APC opponent of the PDP, in the gubernatorial elections, the stakes has gotten much higher.

The battle for the soul of Ekiti State has been sparked with threats and counter-threats especially from the camp of Governor Ayo Fayose, who has said vehemently that Ekiti belonged to the PDP. He even went as far as saying that President Buhari who was scheduled to be in Ekiti for a political rally yesterday Tuesday 10th July, would not be welcomed in the state. Needless to say all spectators held their breath to see what would happen on the rally day. But the drama even started before the scheduled rally day.

9th July 2018- news broke that the police has arrested two people in a printing press where election materials were printed- by Eugene Agha. The report below……

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal and some detectives from the command on Monday stormed a printing press at Gbagada area of Lagos State, where electoral materials are being printed. It was gathered that the printing press located at No. 13 A and 13 B Oguntano Street, Gbagada, was allegedly owned by one Eniola Fayose. It was also learnt that the owner who hails from Ikere in Ekiti state was not around when police stormed the place. The Ekiti State Gubernatorial election is scheduled to hold on July 14, 2018. As at press time today, the company’s Admin/Human Resources Manager and graphic artist are being quizzed by detectives at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

The State Police boss who briefed the media at the end of the raid said that on July 8, 2018, an intelligence report from a credible source was received by the command that fake ballot papers meant for the forthcoming Gubernatorial elections in Ekiti State, are being printed in a company known as O’Naphtali Limited located on 13B Oguntona Crescent, Gbagada, Lagos. He said that the company is reportedly owned by one Eniola Fayose.

He said: “The report further revealed that some of the printed ballot papers were moved to Ekiti State in three Hilux vans on Friday July 6, 2018, while the art works are still in their graphic computers. “Based on the report, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command immediately led a contingent of policemen to the location to verify the information. At the scene, it was discovered that the company has two buildings located at number 13 A and 13B Oguntona Street, Gbagada Phase 1, Lagos. It was also discovered that the two buildings are being used for general printing/art work.” Edgal who said that to ascertain what the houses where being used for a search warrant was executed on the premises, adding that the following items were recovered:

“One HP laptop, one Acer laptop, one Booklet of form EC/ EK 8B Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission EKSIEC; three EKEC 50 A envelop for miscellaneous materials, two pieces of Ekiti SEC , eight A(1) statement of result, one copy of form Ekiti SEC eight A(1), one income tax clearance certificate of Ekiti state , seven pieces of Ekiti state Internal Revenue motor receipts, one piece of form EC 8A of Ekiti SEC, one piece of Ekiti State Voters card register log book cover for Ado local government, one piece of NECO mark / attendance sheet, Ekiti State Ministry of Education progress report for secondary school and one colour turn flash drive” he added.

Edgal said that preliminary investigations by the detectives led by him revealed that the company is owned by one Eniola Fayose, an indigene of Ikere, Ekiti state and that the company is said to be in a contractual agreement with the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission to print the elections materials found during the search.

He said that the recovered laptops are being scrutinized by the police ICT experts with a view to discovering any incriminating information. “Meanwhile, the Admin/Human Resources Manager and Graphics artist of the company are assisting the Police in the investigation. “Further development will be communicated to the public in due course” he said.

As spectators held their breath at the first sign of electoral malpractice in the forthcoming Ekiti elections, another one happened.

10th July 2018- on the said rally day, being yesterday precisely, a Babafemi Ojudu an APC member, reported that all transport vehicles in Ekiti State has been grounded to frustrate the rally. The report below….

This is crazy. Fayose has paid all transporters in Ekiti to hand over all their vehicles so that there won’t be any to bring the teeming supporters of our party from their various locations to receive Mr President. All the vehicles as I write this are parked in the premises of the Government House and local government secretariats across the state with the gates padlocked. He has shut all markets and asked people not to come out to receive Mr President.

Alternative arrangements are being made to ensure we transport every one of our supporters to Ado Ekiti to give Mr President a befitting welcome. This morning I feel like cursing every single person in our party and government, who collaborated to truncate all efforts made by some of us to throw this guy out of our space before becoming a monster that he is today. I and my colleagues did everything legally possible at the inception of this administration to alert on the danger constituted by this fellow to our democracy and to our country.

We moved and made arrangements to impeach him when our party had majority in the house. Our party members and a number of the leaders betrayed us. Even when he installed a new set of lawmakers, most of whom knew not their right hand from their left, I investigated them and came up with concrete evidence to show that 14 of his 26 lawmakers forged their school certificates to secure eligibility.

I have never, ever seen a situation where a governor has done this much to disrespect the President of his country no matter their political differences. At the heat of the disagreement between Governor TINUBU and President Obasanjo, Obasanjo paid a visit to Lagos State. Tinubu rolled out the red carpet and even sowed a uniform Aso Oke, for Obasanjo, himself and members of Obasanjo’s entourage with all the honors the President of the country deserved accorded him. This was at a time Obasanjo refused to make Local Government allocations available to Lagos for almost two years.

From my vantage position I want to say and stand to be corrected, that no single allocation meant for Ekiti has been denied Ekiti since Fayose embarked on his war against President Buhari. Every programs designed by the Federal Government to relieve the people of hardship has been made available to Ekiti. In some cases it is the State Government that has out of hostility refused to allow the citizenry to participate. A good example of this is the Home Grown Free School program that has so far benefitted majority of school pupils across the country.

Fayose has serially abused the president, publicly wished him dead, libelled his wife and children , insulted him outside the country and the President has not only refused to respond to him but has ordered all of us who work for him and could give Fayose in equal measure not to engage him.

What Fayose has done very sad and inexcusable. We hope he won’t go ahead this morning and park trucks across the roads to block The President from having access to the venue of the rally. This fellow is capable of all that is indecent. Sadly last week a band of rogues went to my house in Ekiti under the cover of night, the gained access to my house by removing the burglary proof, broke down all the doors and carted away all my property and that of my wife. This is the first time since I built the house in 2003 that I will experience this. The police till now have not been able to fish out those responsible. We shall not be deterred. We shall continue to work hard even at the risk of everything to bring sanity to our land”.

Commercial Vehicles Grounded at Government House

While spectators are still writhing at the enormity of what was happening in Ekiti State and is being viewed globally, another source Hon Adekoya Dare Laba, posted on his Facebook account that commercial drivers in Ekiti State were angry with Gov Fayose for betraying them today. The report below…..

“Ekiti drivers are angry with Governor Ayodele Fayose for not fulfilling his promises to pay them N10,000 for agreeing to park their vehicles inside Government House, so as not to carry APC members in the state to Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, the venue of the rally which would be attended by President Muhammadu Buhari today. The drivers rejected the N2,000 Fayose gave to them last night. According to some of the drivers, “the Governor promised us N20,000 each to stay off the road so that APC supporters will be stranded, and return back to their various homes in order not to honour the rally, but he turned out to scam us after our vehicles have been parked inside the government house.”

President Buhari Arriving Ekiti State

At The Rally

July 10th 2018- And then finally the rally still held, APC members’ delegates and supporters gathered round and all activities billed for today happened. And then President Buhari made his speech……

10TH JULY, 2018

I am happy to be here in Ekiti State, and among the good people of Ekiti. Ekiti State people are dear to me. My earliest interactions with people of this State dates back several decades ago, and I have always found them to be very intelligent and honourable people.

  1. For those of us with a background in the military, we have come to know officers and men of Ekiti origin to be of exemplary courage, discipline and integrity.
  2. Today, alongside indigenes of other States, many officers and men of Ekiti origin continue to follow in the footsteps of their forebears, under the command of the current Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin from Ode-Ekiti.
  3. Outside of the military, over the years, many of your leading lights, especially in the academia, have distinguished Ekiti indigenes in the comity of states in our federation.
  4. My coming here today is not only to campaign, but make clear the reason why Ekiti people must embrace the Change Agenda and vote for APC.
  5. The Ekiti people are a politically aware and well informed electorate. They cannot be brainwashed or deceived.
  6. In the last three years, this Administration has not only carried out laudable projects in Ekiti State, but also helped in creating employment opportunities for the indigenes of the State.
  7. The APC Government has executed 13 Federal Roads and Intervention Projects in Ekiti State. Some have already been completed and some are near completion.
  8. Those roads that have been completed at the cost of N766,739,968.37 are;
  9. The construction of infrastructure, Roads Drainages and Asphalt Finishing at IKERE EKITI.
  10. The construction of infrastructure, Roads Drainages and Asphalt Finishing at NATIONAL HOUSING PROGRAMME SITES.
  11. The completion of emergency Repairs of failed sections of IFAKI – IKOLE – OMUO Road and;
  12. The completion of emergency repairs of failed sections of IFAKI – IDO Road, while the Rehabilitation of EFON ALAAYE-ERINMO-IWARAJA road is 87% completed.
  13. In addition, other Road projects ongoing in the State are; Rehabilitation of ADO-IFAKI-OTUN road; Repairs of IJEBU-IJESHA ROAD; Rehabilitation of ILA-ORANGUN-OKE ILA –ILALE-EKAN Road; Rehabilitation and Asphalt Overlay/construction of Reinforced Concrete Drains and Kerbs of 1.33km internal roads in Federal University, Oye, amongst others.
  14. These roads are being handled by 13 different contractors, providing more employment to the people of Ekiti state.
  15. You are all aware that Ekiti State has been operating without a Federal Secretariat. The APC-led Administration has also AWARDED the construction of a Federal Secretariat Complex in Ekiti to accommodate Federal Staff, and ensure that the state no longer operates without a Federal Secretariat as she has done since the creation of the State.
  16. In addition to these laudable projects and employment opportunities, the APC government has also extended the National Housing Programme to the people of Ekiti State.
  17. This National Housing Programme being handled by 16 contractors is not only beneficial in terms of accommodation, but also providing gainful employment. The suppliers of materials for this project are from Ekiti State, while the site work, electrical, plumbing, welding etc, are all carried out by the people of Ekiti State. This Administration desires to provide more employment opportunities to the people of Ekiti State and Nigeria at large.
  18. There has been an unprecedented number of Federal political appointments of Ekiti indigenes in the state.

Ekiti State is also one of the Beneficiaries of our Social Investment Programmes, which include – N-Power, Homegrown School Feeding; Conditional Cash Transfer and Micro-credit finance for traders. We have also done several tranches of Bail-Out Funds and Paris Club Refunds.

  1. In spite of the fact that the current administrations in Ekiti State and the Federal Government belong to opposing political parties, we have always ensured the State got her fair share in the allocation of resources, the siting of federal projects, and the selection of beneficiaries of federal government programmes. We will never play politics with the welfare of the people of Ekiti or any other State regardless of the partisan affiliation of the government of the day.

  2. May I, again, clear the air on the issue of herdsmen and farmers’ conflicts, on which many politicians in their mischievous attitude have been blackmailing me and the APC-led administration, purporting that I have not taken any action on the issue because I am a Fulani man. This is cheap blackmail. Like I said recently, the protection of lives and property of Nigerians is my responsibility. This, I have vowed to do, and will stick to the oath of office. I assure you that measures are being taken to ensure lasting solutions.

  3. I, therefore, call on Ekiti people!  Don’t allow yourself to be insulted by stomach infrastructure. Your future and the future of the upcoming generations are in your hands today. Vote for APC and grow beyond Stomach Infrastructure.

  4. The time has come to correct historical injustice and restore Ekiti State to the path of peace and prosperity. The whole country looks to Ekiti to do the right thing by voting for the APC candidate in the election this Saturday, July 14, as you commence the journey to Reclaiming Your Land and Restoring Your Values.

  5. I present to you the APC Gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. VOTE for him on Saturday, 14th July, 2018.

  6. Dr. Kayode Fayemi served as Minister of Mines and Steel Development and recorded series of achievements in the Ajaokuta Steel Company. And with his experience as one-term Governor of the State, a meaningful development is guaranteed. DON’T WASTE YOUR VOTE. VOTE FOR DEVELOPMENT. VOTE for APC-Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

  7. I came into office in 2015 through a free and fair election. In my party, the APC, we do not believe in manipulation of electoral processes. The will of the people must matter. And that is what we will uphold here in Ekiti – FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS. No manipulation of any form.

  8. Finally, I urge all the stakeholders of this important election to ensure free and fair election, embrace peace and promote democracy in Nigeria.

  9. Thank you and God bless EKITI People! God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

After such exemplary speech by President Buhari, Minister of Labour Chis Ngige, came out to speak and cheer the supporters into voting for Kayode Fayemi an then he made an erroneous blunder or deliberate instruction (that is yet to be determined). Chris Ngige said to Ekiti people that Governor Ayo Fayose is the real deal and that they must do everything to return Ayo Fayose to power!!!!! Please find the video courtesy of Channels TV below…..

Do you think Chris Ngige meant what he said or was it an error?
