JUST IN; FIRE OUTBREAK AT ECOBANK HEAD OFFICE

A fire broke out at Ecobank Head Office in Kofo Abayomi Victoria Island at about 9am this morning. The fire according to sources, was caused by a diesel tanker which was discharging fuel at the bank premises. The fire which razed a huge part of the building fortunately did not spread to neighboring buildings.

The staff of Ecobank succeeded in evacuating everyone within the premises and other businesses in the neighborhood also evacuated their staff, who wore face masks to avoid inhaling the smoke. No casualty has been recorded at the time of this report.

The Lagos State Fire Service arrived at about 20 mins later, also neighboring banks such as UBA and Union Bank also sent in their fire service cars in a show of solidarity. By the time National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) arrived, it was a total number of 7 fire service vehicles around to quench the heavy fire, which caused heavy traffic along Kofo Abayomi and its environs..

No details yet as to extent of damage to the building and its properties etc.
