Fashion, Awards Giving And More Fashion On Africa Fashion Week Nigeria Day 2
Day 2 of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, which happened on Sunday September 16th, was a befitting grand finale to one of the most prestigious award platforms that celebrates African fashion.
The fashion show, which signaled the end of the Africa fashion week shows both in Nigeria and London for 2018, had the best designers showcasing on that day. Some new designers such as Kunle Afolayan, who launched his Kunle’s Kembe collection showed that day, with actor Caroline Danjuma headlining his collection as the lead model.
Ooni of Ife, who was also the special guest to the AFWN also launched his Ojaja Fashion Institute, which was a platform to launch fashion designers in Osun and environs into the glamorous and sometimes hectic fashion industry. The Ojaja Institute, also showcased some of their collections on the runway.
Another high point of the AFWN 2018, was the giving out of awards to some persons who had in one way or the other supported the Nigerian and African fashion industry. Some of the awardees are Dele Momodu (Ovation Magazine Publisher), -he was commended for projecting African fashion and culture through his magazine, but was also urged to do more for the fashion industry now. Florence Ita-Giwa (Mama Bakassi and former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria), she was commended for her humanitarian works, for being a fashion icon through the years, and for supporting Africa fashion week Nigeria and London. Ita-Giwa single- handedly attended the first Africa Fashion Week London in 2011 and has also walked on the AFWN runway in Lagos. Sisi Abah Folawiyo (veteran fashion icon and designer), was commended for making people realize that are talented in fashion and for her contribution to developing and growing the fashion industry in Africa. Abah Folawiyo also showcased her collection on AFWN runway in 2014, among others.
Models and celebrities such as Uti Nwachukwu, Tobi Bakare, Bryan Okwara, Mercy Aigbe and Caroline Danjuma also walked the runway for various designers. And other special guests who attended the event were, Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Mrs Olufunsho Amosun (First Lady of Ogun State), Princess Toyin Folabi, Oba Francis Olusola Alao (The Olugbon of Orile Igbon), Eunice Efole, Opral Benson, Ade Bakare etc.
Former runway model Ronke Apampa was the host of the event, which ended way into the early hours of Monday morning.
