NLC Starts Nationwide Strike Today
Baring any last minute decisions, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will embark on an indefinite strike action today, Thursday 27th September.
The strike action, which is being called because the Federal Government , has failed to implement the agreed minimum wage for civil servants, despite promising to do so severally. And late Wednesday, an emergency meeting which held between the Federal Government, represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment Dr Chris Ngige, and executive members of the Labour Congress ended in a gridlock.
According to the NLC President Ayuba Wabba “the meting ended in a deadlock as both parties failed to reach an agreement, and so the industrial action continues as earlier announced”
The meeting between the minister, tripartite committee on minimum wage and labour leaders, was called to address the concerns raised by organised labour, but it failed to reach an agreement.
