Saraki Vs Oshiomole, We Will Meet in Court

There has been a heated war of words between Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and Nationa Chairman of PAC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, with both of them threatening law suits against each other.

Sequel to the crisis that has been in APC since the national primaries were held, with some disgruntled governors swearing to ensure that Oshiomhole is removed as the APC chairman because he failed to ensure their own candidate wins the primaries. There has been allegations that Oshiomhole may have been involved in bribery from some governors and APC members, who wanted their own candidate to be named as the party flagbearer in their respective states.

This allegation led to Oshiomhole been invited by the DSS and quizzed for hours before been released to travel abroad for medical checkup. The DSS however failed to release the details of their interrogation of Oshiomhole, instead they announced they would submit their findings to the Presidency.

Not satisfied with the outcome of Oshiomhole’s quizzing, Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of APC, openly accused Adams Oshiomhole, of collecting over $50M from different aspirants during the last primaries of the party, he claimed that a large percentage of the money was paid to Oshiomhole through proxies from Imo, Zamfara, Adamawa and Ogun States.

In a press statement Yesterday, Frank threatened to publish the names and the amount of money paid by aspirants to allegedly bribe the former Edo State governor to clear them, and substitute the names of duly elected candidates with those that failed.

Frank claimed that the DSS had presented its findings against Oshiomhole to President Muhammadu Buhari, who has refused to act as expected.

He said, “I dare say that this singular act of refusing to order the prosecution of Oshiomhole over sundry acts of bribery and corruption he committed as contained in the DSS report, President Buhari has shown that his APC administration is a stinking house of corruption.”

Frank, however, called on the President to act on the recommendations of the DSS by ordering Oshiomhole’s sacking and prosecution, if his government was actually fighting corruption or opposition.

“In the history of party administration in Nigeria, no party chairman has been accused of collecting the jaw-breaking amount of money allegedly collected within a short period in office like Comrade Oshiomhole has allegedly done. Instead of Oshiomhole to clear his name, he has taken to a diversionary path, asking the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, to resign. Nigerians are not gullible. We shall wait to see how the acclaimed anti-corruption regime will act on this particular issue.

“This same Oshiomhole has been attacking the Senate President, calling on him to resign on moral grounds. Can Oshiomhole now step aside while investigation into his financial malfeasance is ongoing to justify his much talked about morality.”

Oshiomhole however, dismissed the allegations as “unfounded”, and labelled Frank “a political jobber”. Responding through his Chief Press Secretary, Simon Ebegbulem, Oshiomhole challenged Frank to publish the names of the alleged bribe givers or face legal action.

Ebegbulem said, “He is a political jobber looking for cheap popularity. How on earth would people of questionable character like Frank be questioning the integrity of the National Chairman? I challenge him to publish the names of those that gave the alleged bribes or we won’t hesitate to institute legal action against him.”

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters exclusively reported yesterday, that the Department of State Services (DSS) has written to President Buhari, asking him to prosecute Oshiomhole for allegedly receiving at least $55Million in relation to the nationwide primaries of the party.

However, Oshiomhole upon returning from his health trip, called on Senate President Bukola Saraki to resign his position on moral grounds. And of course, Saraki reverted asking Oshiomhole to also resign his position as the National Chariman of APC as he had no moral basis to be in politics, being that he has a huge bribery allegation against him. Oshiomole then threatened to file a law suit against Bukola Saraki, if he fails to mention the names of APC party members who reportedly bribed him to serve their cause.

Oshiomhole who denied the allegation said “It is sad that Saraki, who just woke up from slumber occasioned by his crushing defeat at the Port Harcourt presidential primary of his party, could degenerate to such a low level. It is equally sad, but not unexpected, that Saraki, who is politically drowning, would make such libellous comments against the National Chairman of the APC. And I challenge Saraki to mention one name of an aspirant that gave money to the National Chairman or we file a legal action against him.

“Whereas the basis on which he made those comments was tenuous and unjustifiable, it is on record that Saraki has been in the eye of investigations by the EFCC and the ICPC for sundry cases of corruption. That is the same man that has taken it upon himself to question Comrade Oshiomhole’s credibility. We challenge him to mention one person who has claimed that he gave money to Oshiomhole to influence him, and the decision of the party’s National Working Committee in the just-concluded primary elections.”

Saraki also expressed his readiness to meet Oshiomhole in court if the need arises over the matter saying “I will be ready to meet him in court”.

Saraki, in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja yesterday, also said Nigerians were waiting to see how President Muhammadu Buhari will handle the serious allegations of bribery levelled against Oshiomhole, over the conduct of the party’s recent primaries.

Saraki added that “we expect the President with his anti-corruption campaign to institute thorough and transparent investigation into the allegations against his party chairman.

He emphasised that failure of the President to get to the root of the matter, will finally destroy his ability and that of the party to continue to talk of any anti-graft battle.

“The President should let the investigation be thorough, open and transparent. This is no time for any cover-up”, he stated.

According to Saraki, until the outcome of a thorough investigation is known to Nigerians and the APC chairman is cleared of the allegations against him, Oshiomhole is not on a firm ground to talk about morality or fight against corruption.
