Rotimi Amaechi Criticism Of President Buhari Continues To Draw Attention
Few days ago, Reno Omokri, foremost PDP loyalist and chief critic of the President Buhari and APC led leadership, leaked an audio tape on twitter, where Transport Minister and Director-General of the Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, was condemning the Buhari administration.
The 10 seconds audio clip, which has since gone viral says “The President is not listening to anybody. He doesn’t care. You can write anything you want. The President doesn’t care. Does he read?”
“This country can never change, I swear. The only way this country can change is in a situation where everybody is killed”.
“This country is going nowhere. When Magnus (Abe) was secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), I told him that this country is hopeless and helpless and he told me, ‘Oga, stop it’. This cannot be coming from a governor.
“But two months in Abuja, Magnus came to meet me and said, ‘I agree with you; this country is hopeless and helpless. All they do in Abuja is to share money.
“I have already written to the governor of Katsina State and I don’t know why he has not replied to give us the land in Daura for a university in Daura. The next university would be in my village. There is a popular saying while we were growing up, that charity begins at home. Will my own begin abroad?
“The president does not listen to anybody. He doesn’t care. You can write what you want to write. Does he read? I was flying with him in the aircraft and we saw a news report where a goat seller was complaining that he couldn’t sell his goats during Sallah because of Buhari’s administration. And the president said what’s my business with goat sellers?”.
However, Omokri, has insisted that there is evidence to show that the audio was genuine, and even threatened to release more audio clips in the event that Amaechi denies the authenticity of the clip.
“Let him do deny it and I will release part two which clearly shows he referred to Buhari.”
https://wakeupafrica360.com/2019/01/07/in-a-true-democracy-the-military-has-no-power-over-civilians/Omokri said Amaechi had no respect for Buhari and even stated in another audio clip that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the only Nigerian leader he respects.
He added, “The man has no iota of respect for Buhari. In fact, he (Amaechi) hero worshipped former President Obasanjo in the tape and said he is the only worthy Nigerian leader. They know the truth but hide it.”
As expected, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari, to step aside following the leaked audio tape and challenged “President Buhari to dare Amaechi and speak out on this poor rating by his Campaign Organization, without which he lacks the rectitude to canvass for votes among Nigerians.”
PPCO, in a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, said, “This development amply shows that the Buhari Campaign Organization is in agreement with Amaechi that President Buhari’s incompetence, nepotism, insensitivity and corruption, and not the 16 years of the PDP in government, are responsible for the myriad of problems facing our nation.
“Our party, therefore, holds that President Buhari now lacks the honour and integrity to campaign and seek for votes since his Campaign Organization is holding him directly responsible for the biting economic hardship and security problems our nation has been facing in almost four years of his tenure, as expressly communicated in the leaked recording.
“Amaechi’s confession, that President Buhari does not listen and that he does not give a hoot about the sufferings of Nigerians but laughs and glees at the misfortunes and plights of our citizens shows the world the level of disdain President Buhari holds Nigerians.
“Mr. President is now merely clinging on straws and walking by his own shadows and Nigerians can now see why he is desperate to use his niece in INEC, Amina Zakari, to rig himself back to power.
“The PPCO challenges President Buhari to dare Amaechi and speak out on this poor rating by his Campaign Organization, without which he lacks the rectitude to canvass for votes among Nigerians.
“We therefore urge President Buhari to advice himself, having seen that he has no support left, by throwing in the towel instead of allowing his desperation bring more opprobrium to his person and plunge the nation into unnecessary crisis.
“Finally, we hope that no harm will befall some members of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization for the exercise of their freedom of expression.”
Initial attempts to get a response from Amaechi proved abortive as his Spokesman, David Iyofor neither responded to phone calls nor a text message sent to him on Saturday. But on Monday, (yesterday), when Amaechi was reinstated as the DG of President Muhammadu Buhari 2019 Campaign Council, he dismissed knowledge of the audio recording, in a media chat.
Speaking exclusively with The Sun, the Transportation Minister said that he was not aware of such audio. Amaechi said: “Nothing. I am not aware of any audio recording.”
He was further informed that the audio was gaining momentum on different online websites, the incumbent Minister of Transportation asked: “Do I do website?”
Amaechi, who is the sole Director-General, of the campaign council, was also with Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the party, who along with President Muhammadu Buhari is the Co-Chairman; and Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman, who joins Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the two deputy chairmen.
