How BBNaija2019 Disrupted Activities Across The Country

The Big Brother Nigeria 2019 auditions held yesterday February 1, in major cities across the country. In Abuja, the auditions took place at Wuse, where the crowd disorganized the entire settings as they struggled to enter the venue.

In Lagos, the auditions took place at the Podium located at Aromire Road, off Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Lagos State citizens bore the brunt and inconveniences of the auditions. The crowd of over a thousand young Nigerians between the ages of 18-40, started thronging and gathering at the location from 2am in the morning, and kept increasing until they became uncontrollable.

The traffic spilled into Opebi, Allen, Marland, GRA, Oregun, Oba Akran, Airport Road, Ojota, and other closer neighbourhoods like Ogba, Agege, Ojodu, Ogudu, Magodo, etc. The BBN, which held its previous editions in South Africa and attracted huge critics from Nigerians that you can’t run a Nigerian show in another country, is set to hold the 2019 edition in Nigeria and winner will get 45Million Naira worth of prizes.

The struggle to be among the 20 housemates scheduled to participate in the 2019 edition and likely win the N45M star prize was real, as the desperate crowd resorted to climbing through some parts of the building just to be able to get inside, the result was a near stampede which almost cost some of the prospective housemates their lives.

Residents in Abuja and Ikeja who were prevented from going about their normal businesses expressed their anger and frustrations on twitter and complained mostly that the organizers didn’t take adequate measures to reduce traffic congestion on the affected roads.

@Yslaplace “Traffic and people are fainting already in Lagos. Abuja looks like a revival service: a whole dual lane road blocked.”

@obidiananthony “The crowd for bbnaija is crazy. Abuja multichoice office audition venue as at 7am on d first day of audition.”

@Susan_damsel “Abuja is no go area ooo, kudos to Asuu strike, more than 2000 people and I am sure its only 500 they want to audition, I give up.”

@Ebonyslim “So these are the people that caused that massive traffic at Adeniyi Jones today n made my son to get to school by 8:40am.”

@Ololadeolusola “How in the world will @DStvNg be having #BigBrotherNaijaAuditions on Aromire Avenue, Ikeja. Why?

“There are thousands of people wanting to audition and the whole Adeniyi Jones and environs is on a lock down! Trying the get my son to school since 6.45am. Too unfair.”

@Survivor17 “5.23am. Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja. Huge crowd, lots of parked cars and a loooooong queue filled with hundreds of youths all the way from Aromire street to Adeniyi Jones. Who knows what’s going on around there biko?”

@TosinOlugbenga “No jobs..ASUU is on strike..Guess what? #BBNaija #bbnaija2019 got this crowd at her audition as early as 4:45am. Apparently some people slept at the venue.”

Today February 2, will be Day 2 of the audtions, WakeUpAfrica360, will bring updates as well.
