Police Disrupt ‘FREE LAGOS’ Press Briefing Today
What could have been a disaster was abated today, at Ikeja Airport Hotel, venue of the “Free Lagos” Press conference, which was scheduled to hold today.
The press conference was organised by a group known as ‘Orange Movement for a Free Lagos State’, with the theme, “Setting Lagos free from Bourdillon Bondage, #OtogeLagos”.
The conveners of the group includes former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olisa Agbakoba, Spokesperson of Afenifere Group, Mr. Yinka Odumakin and Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to eyewitness, some participants were already seated inside the Oranmiyan Hall, while other participants also came to the venue but were stopped at the gate, by armed policemen, who did not allow anybody to come inside the hall.
As the participants started protesting, asking to be let into the venue, the policemen fired several shots to disperse them, this led to the crowd running helter-skelter around the hotel premises.
The source claimed the policemen were in 10 vehicles, and that the action was to prevent the press conference from holding.
But the state’s police spokesman, Chike Oti, told WakeUpAfrica, that they were reacting to an intelligence report that some hoodlums were trying to hijack the press briefing, and so swooped in to conduct their duties, which is to protect lives and properties of the citizens.
Meanwhile, Agbakoba, Odumakin and Afikuyomi didn’t show up eventually for the conference, maybe as a result of the siege.
