Nigeria Customs Promote Staff Who Rejected $420,000 Bribe

There is yet hope for Nigeria, and greater hope in the reward of good deeds, especially from the Nigerian civil service system.

This much was shown as the Nigeria Customs Service recently promoted Comptroller Bashir Abubarkar of Apapa Area Command to Assistant Comptroller General (ACG), for his boldness in rejecting bribe.

Comptroller Abubarkar rejected a bribe to the tune of $420,000 from a drug trafficking cartel, which tried to make him take delivery of 41 smuggled containers of Tramadol.

Abubarkar was very pleased at the promotion, and promised to do more within his capacity to revamp the image of the Customs Service and make Nigerians trust the government agency again.
