Court Set To Charge IGP Adamu & Abba Kyari For Contempt On September 25

IGP Muhammad Adamu and DCP Abba Kyari have been summoned to appear before a Federal High Court on September 25. The duo were summoned on Wednesday, July 10, for contempt of court, as they have failed to produce a suspect. Justice Dorcas Agishi of the Federal High Court, who ordered (IGP) Adamu and Abba Kyari, to appear before it, said they need to explain why they have not been able to produce Nanpon Sambo, a suspect who has been in detention since February 2019.

The judge said: “The IGP and Abba Kyari are to forthwith produce the accused person in the registry of the court here in Jos immediately, for documentation and transfer to Jos Prisons pending the resumption of court from vacation. They are to appear before this honourable court on the next adjourned date of this case, to show cause why the Court should not visit them with the consequence of contempt for deliberately disobeying its orders.”

The lawyer who is representing the suspect Sambo, insisted that since the police is a creation of the law, then it should also respect every bit of the law. “The Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be a state based on the principles of democracy and social justice. It is hereby declared that sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria, from whom government through this constitution derives all its powers and authority,” he argued.

Sambo’s lawyer also asked for the transfer of his client to Jos prisons, when the court resumes sitting on the case after its annual judicial vacation.
