Why Former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode Was Not Picked As A Ministerial Nominee
Former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, is still in shock over the ministerial appointment list, which was sent to the Senate for ratification from President Buhari. Before now, Ambode and his followers had been so sure of securing a ministerial post, that they had gone to town with the story, and even celebrating their victory in advance.
However, those who should know insist that Ambode’s name was shortlisted for a ministerial post. But the Lagos APC stalwarts, who still bore a grudge against Ambode, threatened fire and brimstone, should he get a ministerial appointment.
And so, Bola Tinubu, and his camp removed Ambode’s name and installed Babatunde Fashola, and former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, as the two names from Lagos State.
President Buhari, on the other hand, had become good friends with Ambode, to the extent that he visited Lagos to commission Ambode’s projects without visiting Tinubu. So all seemed well in Tinsel Town, until the pressure became too much for him and he had to bow to avoid having another rond of problems with the Tinubu camp so early in his second tenure.
The day the ministerial list was released, there was palpable silence in the Ambode camp. And indeed a sad day for his followers. There are hopes however, that Ambode may get an Ambassadorial appointment, to compensate him for the loss and restore some sort of dignity to his political career.
