South-East Governors Ban Herders In The Zone, “Too Little Too Late” Nnamdi Kanu Says

The Governors of the South East region made what is considered a brave move as they placed a ban on herdsmen who wield AK47 riffles or machete in the entire eastern region.  They have also asked for a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and security chiefs in the country, to address the insecurity challenges in the East.

Gov Dave Umahi, governor of Ebonyi State, who also doubles as the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, said to newsmen on Saturday, that there would also be joint air surveillance in the -eastern zone to reduce the spate of banditry in the region.

“We have banned herders who move about with AK47 and machete and we want our security agencies to enforce the order,”Umahi said, even as he praised the Enugu State Government for the serious security steps it had taken, which included establishing Forest Guards in the state. He also urged other states in the zone to do same in their states, so their people can be safer.

Information gathered by WakeUpAfrica has it that the governors of Ebonyi, Anambra, Imo and Enugu States, Deputy Governor of Abia, Minister of Aviation Sen Hadi Sirika, representative of the Minister of Works, Managing Director of FAAN, Prof Barth Nnaji, were in attendance, as they all sought a way to douse the tension in the zone. Also, in attendance were security chiefs in the national, zonal and state levels, President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Chief Nnia Nwodo, chieftains of Ohaneze Ndigbo and technocrats, among others.

Meanwhile, the leader of the proscribed IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has queried the mention of Operation Python Dance in the meeting of the South-East governors.

According to the South-East governors “we resolved to commence joint air operations to flush out bandits form all forests in the zone, and we intend to make it a continuous one”

“We never invited the Army nor were South East Governors informed of their Operations Python Dance, until the operations were already started in the states”. However, Kanu wondered why the South East Governors proscribed IPOB if indeed they didn’t know about the Operation Python Dance 2.

Kanu wrote on his Twitter page, “South East Governors, if you knew nothing about Operation Python Dance 2, why did you proscribe IPOB in its wake? The same northern leaders instigating you to fight peaceful IPOB is busy negotiating with and financing their fellow Fulani bandits.

“Who is fooling who? Too little, too late.”
