NDLEA Destroys Two Hectares Of Cannabis Farms In Edo State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has made a landmark achievement in Edo State within the past month, as the Edo Command informed the media that they have discovered and destroyed two hectares of cannabis farms in the state.

According to Buba Wakawa, the State Commander of the Agency, the farms are located in Ovia North East and Etsako West Local Government areas and were estimated to yield 248,088kg of cannabis plants.

He also mentioned that the command has also seized 452.36kg of substance, which is suspected to be cannabis as well as Tramadol and Diazepam tablets. He also said that 11 other suspected drug traffickers which are made up of five males and six females were caught and would be charged to court.

And the good news is that the suspects owned up to the crimes in their various statements, saying they did it to make money, even as he emphasized the many problems that drug abuse cause to youths and their families.

“Most youths who are hooked on drugs have become openly disobedient to parents, dropping out of school and work, and becoming liabilities to their parents. Some even engage in stealing, armed robbery, cultism and other criminal activities,” he said.
