General Mushiga Muntu Resigns From The Alliance For National Transformation Leadership In Order To Carry The Party Flag

Information reaching Wakeupafrica360 has it that the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) National Coordinator, General Mushiga Muntu has resigned as the national coordinator in order to contest for the party’ s flag bearer ahead of the presidential election in 2021. The Deputy National Coordinator in charge of finance and administration, Ms. Alice Alaso, made known to journalists that she has been appointed as acting leader of the party pending subsequent decisions by the National Delegates Conference to be held later in August 2020. She further made known that Gen. Muntu in fulfillment of the requirement of the constitution of the party tendered his resignation. According to her, Gen. Muntu will now seek election as the flag bearer of the party ahead of the 2021 Presidential Election and that his decision to resign is in line with the conventional requirement of the party.

Copies of the two letters signed by Ge. Muntu and addressed to Ms. Alaso has been made known to the public and has been acquired by journalists. The letters are dated June 26, 2020. In one of the letters titled “Appointment As An Acting National Coordinator”, Gen. Muntu made known the fact that he is delegating the party’s responsibilities to Ms. Alaso. According to the letter, Gen. Muntu wrote this, “This is to delegate to you the responsibility of the National Coordinator to manage the running of the party until the Interim Batuobal Delegates Conference when the office of the interim National Coordinator will be filled. I will shortly be sending to you my letters of resignation from the office as required by our party constitution.” In his letters of regulation, General Muntu made known his intentions and interest in the party’s presidential flag noting it as the major reason for his resignation. According to one of the letters, he wrote and I quote,” This is to inform you that I intend to seek nomination to compete as a candidate for the party flag bearer. This letter therefore serves to I form you that I am taking leave of office as provided for in article 9(2.6) of out party constitution. I wish to further express my appreciation to the national interim committee, all members and supporters of the party for the cooperation accorded to me while serving at the helm of affairs of the Alliance for National Transformation.” The Now Acting Coordinator, Ms. Alaso went further to say that Gen. Muntu will have no other chance of leading the party at the top whether he wins or loses the flag. Recently, the Alliance for National Transformation rolled out a pathway for it’s delegates’ conference schedule for August this year.

General Muntu was the person that launched the party in May last year after he left the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in what he regarded as one of his efforts to unseat the current president, President Museveni who has ruled Uganda for more than 30 years.
