EKITI APC CRISIS DEEPENS AS FACTION SUSPENDS THE STATE GOVERNOR, DR. FAYEMI KAYODE AND 11 OTHERS.
Information gathered by wakeupafrica360 team in Nigeria has it that the All Progressive Congress (APC) Ekiti state chapter has on Friday in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Ade Ajai, in Ado-Ekiti suspended the political adviser to the president, Babafemi Ojudu, Oyetunde Ojo and 9 other leaders of the party indefinitely over their failure to withdraw the case they instituted against the party. Reacting to the alleged suspension, Babafemi Ojudu said: ’let it be said that the only organ of the party that can try and suspend a member is the ward. What they have done is clearly illegal. I remain a member of the APC and a committed one at that’. Femi Adeleye, the secretary to the aggrieved APC members, commenting on the suspension said:’ we have filled a suite through our lawyer at the state high court in Ado-Ekiti and served them since Tuesday, September 22,2020 for all parties to maintain status quo, but it is clear that what they have just done is contempt of court’.
Less than 24 hours after the suspension of Babafemi Ojudu and other leaders of the APC in Ekiti state, the eight-man disciplinary committee led by Patrick Ajigbolamu announced the suspension of Governor Fayemi and all the state working committee according to a statement signed by Tony Adeniyi, Babafemi Ojudu, Dayo Adeyeye, Bimbo Daramola, Robinson Ajiboye, Oyetunji Ojo, Adewale Omirin and Femi Adeleye. They claim Fayemi was suspended in view of his alleged numerous anti-party activities especially his role in the just concluded governorship election in Edo State which is contrary to the provisions of Article 21 (A) (ii) of the APC Constitution. Reacting to the suspension of governor Kayode Fayemi, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, the chief press secretary to the governor, on Friday said it was ‘a joke taken too far’. Yinka said governor Fayemi remains the indisputable leader of the APC in Ekiti state and the action of the group smacks of criminal impersonation as none of those who signed the purported suspension letter was executive members of the party at the ward, local government or state level.
The national secretariat of the APC in Abuja on Friday rejected the indefinite suspension of Babafemi Ojudu and ten other party leaders. It also condemned governor Fayemi’s suspension saying it recognizes no faction of the APC in Ekiti state but sees them as a single body with internal crisis which will be resolved soon. The political storm of the All Progressive Congress in Ekiti state seems to be connected to the control of the state ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial poll. One faction is led by the state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi while the other faction is led by Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who is the political adviser to the president.
