‘Atiku Is Not Nigerian, So He’s Unqualified To Be President’, APC Claims

The All Progressives Congress (APC) released a shocker at the Presidential Election Petition  Tribunal in Abuja, where it claimed that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is not a Nigerian by birth.

Atiku filed a motion challenging the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as the winner in the February 2019 presidential elections by INEC.

Lateef Fagbemi, counsel to APC, argued that Atiku was born on November 25, 1946 in Jada, Adamawa State, which was in Northern Cameroon at that time; hence, he’s a citizen of Cameroon. And this makes him unqualified to contest for the election. He further supported his argument with

section 131(a) of the constitution, which stated that a person must be a citizen of Nigeria by birth to be qualified to contest as president of the country.

The APC went further to accuse the PDP of presenting a non-citizen as a candidate for the office of the president, and this asked the tribunal to declare the 11.1million votes polled by Atiku as wasted votes. The party also pleaded with the tribunal to dismiss the petition for lack of competence.
